Body odor can change as we get older, and one compound that has been studied in connection with age-related body odor is 2-nonenal.

Research suggests that 2-nonenal can form through the oxidative breakdown of certain fatty acids found in skin surface lipids.

That made me curious.

Can a persimmon soap actually make a difference?

So I tried Mirai Clinical Persimmon Soap myself.

Why Persimmon?

Mirai Clinical markets this soap specifically for aging-related body odor and says its Japanese persimmon tannin helps target nonenal rather than simply covering odor with a strong fragrance.

The formula also contains ingredients such as green tea extract, glycerin, sorbitol, camellia seed oil, hydrolyzed collagen, and sodium hyaluronate.

But there’s an important distinction.

Research on 2-nonenal and persimmon-containing formulations does not mean this particular soap will eliminate aging-related body odor for everyone.

So instead of relying on the claims, I wanted to focus on what I actually noticed.

What I Actually Noticed

The soap has a light, subtle scent that I really like.

After showering, my skin felt very clean — more thoroughly cleansed than when I use my usual Dove soap.

But there was one downside.

It left my skin feeling noticeably drier.

My skin is naturally dry and sensitive, so I would keep this in mind if you have a similar skin type.

Did It Actually Help With Body Odor?

Honestly, I couldn’t tell.

I normally shower twice a day and don’t have much noticeable body odor to begin with, so it was difficult to see a clear before-and-after difference.

I even asked my husband if he noticed a change, and he didn’t.

Since I didn’t notice a clear difference myself, I’m not going to say this soap eliminated my body odor when I couldn’t actually confirm that.

What About Aging-Related Body Odor?

This was the part I was most curious about.

2-nonenal has been studied in connection with age-related changes in body odor. There is also research suggesting that certain persimmon-containing polyphenol formulations may help reduce 2-nonenal.

But that doesn’t mean simply using any persimmon soap will make aging-related body odor disappear.

Mirai Clinical says its persimmon tannin targets nonenal, but based on my own experience, I can’t personally confirm a noticeable change.

What I did notice was a very clean feeling after washing — along with more dryness than I get from my usual soap.

My Take

I like the subtle scent and how clean my skin feels after using Mirai Clinical Persimmon Soap.

What I don’t love is the dryness.

Compared with my usual Dove soap, this was noticeably more drying on my skin.

And when it comes to body odor, I simply couldn’t confirm a noticeable difference in my own experience.

So I wouldn’t call it a miracle body odor soap.

But if you’re curious about persimmon soap for aging-related body odor, it may be worth trying — especially if your skin isn’t particularly dry or sensitive.

For me, the bottom line is simple: I like the soap, but I’d be careful recommending it to someone with very dry skin.
